Summer Course - Context + Climate
July 14-25 , 2025
This course will guide you through the world of sustainable architecture and construction in developing regions all around the world, within the context of cultural and climatic differences and lack of infrastructure. You will learn to design constructions that are not only functional and resilient, but also environmentally friendly and respectful of local culture, climate, and resources.
From traditional building techniques to modern approaches, from selecting appropriate materials to energy-efficient solutions, you will understand how architecture can contribute to community development and improve living conditions. We will also explore locally available materials such as wood, stone, clay, and bamboo and their use in constructions. We will address challenges in remote regions with limited infrastructure and access to complex technologies.
The course places a strong emphasis on practical skills, so you can look forward to group projects. The skills acquired in this course are transferable to projects in a variety of settings, including those with more conventional circumstances. Consulting on your own projects or ideas is also possible.
