WORKSHOP
When we navigate cities or buildings, we often overlook how design shapes our experience and reflects historical, cultural, and functional contexts. The 2025 summer school will explore this dynamic, focusing on designing a membrane foil pavilion within a historical setting.

Through lectures, tours, and workshops, participants will examine how modern techniques like tension-based designs can harmonize with historical environments. Membrane structures will highlight how innovative materials can enhance traditional settings. Participants will experiment with elasticity, load-bearing, and aesthetics by designing smaller-scale models, guided by experts.
We will encounter not only the architecture itself but also the artworks and craft elements used to create holistic spaces.
Set against Prague’s historic backdrop, the program offers a unique
educational journey led by Jerry Koza, Jakub Kopecký, and the ARCHIP
team. We will tour glass artworks in public space and also visit the CTU material and membrane lab.
In the second phase, participants will build a 1:1 modular membrane pavilion, evaluating its structural and aesthetic compatibility with its context. Visits to significant sites, including DOX’s Airship installation and Dolní Vítkovice, will inspire and showcase how contemporary designs can enrich historical settings.
